Citnalta Construction Corp. built a 4,500 sq. ft. boathouse that holds 130 kayaks, canoes, and other small non-motorized vessels, and includes a boat repair workshop plus offices and restrooms, and large sliding panels, which provide natural ventilation. The entire project was 65,550 sq. ft. and included a large central grassy area, the boathouse, and a kayak launch at Pier 96. The construction of Pier 96 Boathouse included a distinctive sloping roof and sloping dock made of zinc for long-lasting and environmentally friendly purposes. The building's interior and exterior received wood paneling and deck made of reusable tropical hardwood. The boathouse is part of the Hudson River Park’s Clinton Cove Park which received a Plaque of Honor and was recognized as one of the top projects in the New York Tri-State area by the Real Estate & Construction Review New York Tri-State Edition.

This contract included the removal of debris, piles of excavated spoils, and old concrete barricades on the upland side of the riprap that lines this area of the Hudson River. After completing the grading of the site, Citnalta installed fencing, windscreen, lighting, benches and three tennis courts all to the exacting standards of the Hudson River Park Trust.

Citnalta was the general contractor responsible for the construction work for the new athletic fields located at Pier 40. The main athletic field was 400ft by 400ft and was covered with an artificial grass surface. Tens of thousands of yards of sub-base and base were imported and graded before Citnalta completed one of the largest installations of artificial turf. The rooftop recreational area was 120ft by 210ft and was used as an open use space which was also covered with an artificial grass surface. Additionally, to create the space for the main courtyard field, Citnalta removed the old parking area and several automobile ramps, and upon removal Citnalta self-performed the construction of concrete slabs needed to cover the open water of the Hudson River below. Citnalta also provided for the installation of stadium lighting, safety and sound systems, the renovation of existing restrooms, and the creation of offices and storage rooms.

P.S. 11 is uniquely situated next to a New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Doughy Park. Citnalta worked very closely with DPR to obtain a Licensing Agreement and temporarily close off access to a section of the park to facilitate the movement of scaffolding and a crane. Upon completion of Citnalta’s work and the expiration of the Licensing Agreement, Citnalta planted new trees, placed and graded new soils, and ensured that DPR’s property was returned to its original condition. The renovation of the existing recreation yard required installation of an astroturf playing field, new trees and shrubbery, and a new playground.
