The Scalamandre - Citnalta Joint Venture (SCJV) continues to build momentum on the Amtrak Sunnyside Yard Airo Program. Design development is advancing strongly, with major facility components reaching 60% completion and Released for Construction (RFC) status. Site testing and proofing are complete, and the team is now fully mobilized with staging operations established across the site. SCJV has commenced self-performance of a more than 8,000 linear foot water main installation that will loop around the entire 100-acre site with, as of July 1st, approximately 2,000 linear feet completed and tested — a critical early works scope that reflects the team’s technical depth and commitment to schedule ownership.

With the site active, all eyes are turning toward the program’s first major milestone: Ready Track 3/4, targeted for completion by July 2027. With Amtrak’s Airo Trainsets scheduled to arrive on the Sunnyside Yard Site in mid-2027, Ready Track is a critical element.  This multi-discipline effort encompasses major utility relocations, micro pile installation, cast-in-place and precast concrete platforms and elements, structural and miscellaneous metals, and major mechanical and electrical systems. As of July 1st, SCJV has captured the area of ready track by installing demising barricades along its 1,000 foot length. Simultaneously, the team is gearing up for construction commencement on the east side of the site known as the Crew Base Facility (CBF) area, where relocations, mass excavation, removals, heavy support of excavation systems (SOE), retaining wall work, concrete foundations, and stormwater detention and retention systems are all slated to get underway in the coming months.

The Airo Program is entering its most active phase yet, with multiple work fronts opening and our team executing on a complex, high-profile program.
